My career background is varied and a little bit eclectic...I have worked for half my life in offices - I left school at 16 and started my career as a trainee accounts clerk - I moved to Manchester in 1979 because I had realised I was Gay and thought that's where all the Lesbians lived!
When I got there, I accidently became a DJ and through hard work became fairly good at it - I had the dubious pleasure of DeeJaying at the Hacienda in Manchester in 1980 something and of course, I have to confess that my work at the Hacienda was prior to the club becoming famous (infamous?) but nevertheless, I experienced standing inside the DJ booth on the balcony, next to the lighting guys and the video jocks!
My other claim to fame at that time was that Steve Pickering (top DJ and creator of M People) asked me if he could buy from me, my copy of 'Don't Look Any Further' which I had on white label - I told him 'no way' and he ultimately recorded it with M People!
We also had Madonna perform in the club, way before she was famous! I left Manchester in 1990 and then worked in clubs in Hammersmith, Earls Court, Richmond and Hounslow - Good days!
Meeting my partner in 1997 encouraged me to give up the clubbing lifestyle - I went back into full time accounting work.
